Friday Night Lights: The Sitcom (Episode Three)

I was doing this thing where I would take episodes of the TV show Friday Night Lights and add audience laughter and reactions to it. It's a pretty serious show so having laughter completely ruins it and makes it look funny. I did this one quite a long time ago but it was taken down on YouTube at the request of NBC. I decided to go ahead and just upload it again to see if I can get it to last this time.

I haven't watched it in awhile. I think I'm about to right now. But I hope it's still somewhat funny. I guess it's important to say that I'm not making fun of the show either. It's one of the best acted/written/directed shows on TV and I can't wait until season three starts up.

Okay... yeah. Enjoy.

MILK

The trailer for the new Gus Van Sant film Milk has finally been released and it looks absolutely amazing. Van Sant is up there as maybe my favorite director and I can't get over how amazing this looks. I'm sad and pathetic and have watched it like twenty times.

It's also strange to see a preview for this because it's obvious it's way more commercial than his last four films (Elephant, Gerry, Last Days, Paranoid Park), but that's not a bad thing. I just hope he doesn't lose what makes those films so great and important.

The cast is also wonderful. Sean Penn is one of my favorites. He really completely owns the screen, no matter the performance. Even if the movie sucks, he is always great. And Emile Hirsch has developed into one of the greatest young actors today. The movie also has Josh Brolin in it, who is basically in every film released now-a-days and Diego Luna, who I haven't really seen since The Terminal and Y tu mamá también (which was wonderful).

I'll be honest and admit I've already heard the new Anberlin and Jack's Mannequin. They are 100% solid. Anberlin might be a step down from their preview two efforts, but it's good. Where Cities was dark, New Surrender is the polar opposite. Fun and near poppy. Likewise, new Jack's Mannequin is far different from their debut, Everything In Transit. It is said that the leak that came out is missing key instruments and interludes. Not sure if I buy that, but I look forward to owning the actual record when it's finally released.

No need to explain Copeland and Lovedrug. If there is an album that might take over The New Frontiers Mending as my favorite album of 2008, it's going to probably be either Copeland or Lovedrug. I am so excited for Copeland's You Are My Sunshine. It was a surprise to know it was coming out in a month but those dudes deliver every single time. Same with Lovedrug.

Fall Out Boy was another surprise and I've heard a few snippets of upcoming songs. "America's Sweethearts" sounds like it's going to be epic. Can't wait for the new single to come out.

Intimacy

"War, War, War, War! I want to declare a war!"

Lately I've been absolutely obsessed with the new Bloc Party record, Intimacy. I've been playing the new one and everything else they've ever done on shuffle for the past couple days and I've managed to get my BP play count to over a hundred plays in a matter of days. There are a number of other bands I've been really into as well, but no one as much as these guys.

I really loved the progression and direction they took with their second record A Weekend In the City. Silent Alarm was awesome but I felt like it was a bit too long. A couple tracks could have been cut to shorten it up and help the flow. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid debut but it's not perfect like people make it out to be despite it having numerous near perfect songs (if not perfect, okay, okay).

Intimacy is by far their most radical work to date but it makes sense when you look at the step forward they took with their sophomore album. I'm not sure where Intimacy ranks. I know it's not my favorite, but I don't know if it's worthy enough to take over as my second favorite Bloc Party record. Time will tell.
